I’m one of those rare gamers who prefer shooting computer controlled bad guys instead of good old-fashioned human beings. Competition doesn’t bother me as much as the jerks on the other side; the whiny pre-teens, racists and cheaters. Forget about deathmatch. I’d rather cozy up on the couch and enjoy single-player. Bungie took my love for slaughtering AI bad guys and fused it with team-based play, where up to four players work co-operatively to outlast progressively difficult waves of Covenant. It was essentially the best of both virtual worlds, where I satisfied my desire to murder bots while cracking jokes with friends.
Why no matchmaking for Firefight?
I love ODST, and I just got back from playing lost platoon firefight for the first time since Reach was released. In hindsight I say ODST’s firefight.
Both halves of the experience are hitting PC for the first time with this beta test. The collection was poorly received upon its initial launch due to a plethora of issues, and the game has been in some form of beta test ever since. Still, the company has vowed to deliver experiences fans won’t soon forget, and even include a few new weapons and skins to enhance the decades-old titles.
Previous tests have suggested that the game will launch mere weeks after tests start, although it’s always possible that a major problem could delay the launch. Prepare to drop. Does FireFight have matchmaking?
The developer said in an update on the Halo website that cross-play, keyboard and mouse support on Xbox, and input-based matchmaking will be added to The Master Chief Collection by the end of That means console players will get the chance to team up with or fight against PC players, with the option to use a mouse and keyboard instead of just a controller. With input-based matchmaking you’ll likely be matched up with players using the same input as you no matter what platform you’re on – so I can’t claim I got “clicked on” when I get sniped from well across the map on High Ground.
Based on the post on the Halo website, cross-play, input-based matchmaking, and the option to select your server region will likely all drop together, with mouse and keyboard support, a per game graphics option, and a custom game browser releasing in a separate bundle.
Just saw this posted on my YouTube feed. There is also a preview of some customization options at the end of the video. Apparently Promethean Vision has been nerfed along with the Carbine, and the user of the Thruster Pack goes into 3rd person when using it in order to balance it out. Nothing seen here is final as of yet, but for the most part, things look pretty good. ODST was pretty amazing, only downside to me was that it was kinda short.
In ODST if a player disconnected, the entire game ended. If a player quit, the entire game ended. If the game lagged at all, the entire game ended. Also, this is very important, you could only play ODST firefight with friends. No randoms. So if you didnt have friends on, you played firefight solo in ODST. Much much more customization in Reach Firefight.

Halo 3: ODST Flighting Should Begin in Just a Few Weeks
Plus, not all of the weapons Halo 3 had. It is called active camo in Halo Reach, you can find it on loadout screens in firefight and matchmaking. There are matchmaking modes for multiplayer as well as firefight in Halo Reach. These would set you up to play with random players.
I find it to be a strange decision by Bungie to not include a matchmaking system for Firefight. People like me who have few friends that play Halo are.
Firefight is a single or cooperative campaign mode in Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach , where up to four players can co-operate with one another via system link or Xbox Live and fight against waves of Covenant attackers. This mode allows them to battle in multiple environments based on campaign maps, on foot or in vehicles, and against increasingly difficult waves of Covenant attackers. Firefight has no limit to the waves of enemies, and continues until the squad has completely run out of lives.
There are five Waves in a Round and three Rounds in a Set. The Set, Round, and Wave can be seen at the top left side of the player’s screen. The Set number is represented by a number from one to infinity; the Round is represented by a circle, going from left to right; the Wave is represented by five slanted vertical boxes, going from left to right.
In the beginning of Firefight, the squad will share seven lives between all of the players. At the end of a round, there will be a brief pause where the players will be allowed to collect ammo and regroup with their squad mates. Their scores are shown in the top right of the screen, with the team score being on the top.
Bungie’s “biggest regret” is no matchmaking in Firefight
After what seems like forever after coming out, Bungie finally admits the sting of regret after excluding a matchmaking service for it’s Firefight mode in Halo 3: ODST because there wasn’t enough time to put it in snicker, snicker. Bungie Community honcho, Brian Jarrard had this to say on the matter:. I think we would have loved to have done that.

Halo 3: ODST Reviews
Reach is good, but ODST is on a whole other level. It’s a four-player co-op survival-fest with no equipment–just your wits, your weapons management skills, and silenced 2x scope pistol. Halo 3’s weapons are coming over to Firefight. This is a big, big deal that adds a new dimension of play. What could it be?
This is also a big deal.
The ODST test on PC will include Firefight matchmaking and custom games, as well as the Theatre mode. There will also be campaign content.

Traditional, linear Halo missions were accessed via labyrinthine semi-open-world of New Mombasa, itself littered with enemy patrols, lore dumps, and hidden caches of vehicles and weapons. Playlists are also being tested — a feature Nate lauded as proof that all Halos are the same Halo — along with a selection of Firefight maps.
Extra customisation options for starting loadouts are being added, along with proper matchmaking in line with the rest of the game. If you click our links to online stores and make a purchase we may receive a few pennies. Find more information here.
